Microblading is quickly picking up in popularity, as a way to give perfectly shaped eyebrows with minimal work.
Semi-permanent, microblading is a tattooing technique that creates hair like-strokes to fill in thinning brows. When filled into thinning eyebrows, microblading creates a beautifully full effect and also allows you to shape your brows exactly how you would want to.
When microblading, the artist needs to use a very specific ink. This ink needs to be the right color to match in with your normal eyebrow color, and the right consistency to work well as tattoo ink. Microblading ink is also not permanent and is degradable when used on the skin, making it only semi-permanent.
For artists, here are some of the best eyebrow tattoo inks to try out:
BioTouch Espresso Cosmetic Pigment Color
Available in a large range of colors, the BioTouch cosmetic pigment color range are great individual bottles and colors to buy to create a collection.
The pigments are formulated with iron oxides, which are safe to use for cosmetic use. Each drop of the BioTouch cosmetic color has many of these particles, which allows the color to absorb into the skin more effectively, to fade less and to hold a truer color for longer.
The pigment also has a unique texture and quality, meaning that the color will not dry out quickly. The mixture is kept smooth due to the ethanol and the microfine particles, not clogging or drying as the technician uses the pigmentation.
The blacker shades of the pigment range use carbon-based ingredients, made up of the same chemical bases that are found naturally in our bodies, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or sensitivity even further.
BioTouch offer artists a well-formulated, safe range to use on clients, that not only offer long-lasting results for clients but which also are a pleasure to use for cosmetic makeup.

What You Should Know About Microblading
If you are looking to try out microblading, or if it is something you would like to learn to do, you should become familiar with a few of the most important things to know about microblading.
It is semi-permanent
Microblading is not permanent. Unlike tattooing of the body, cosmetic tattooing is superficial to the skin, and the inks used are more degradable than the ink used for body art. Together with the degrading ink and your immune system digesting the ink, it will fade over time. The lifespan of microblading is from one to three years but will require touchups every one or two years.
It takes more than one sitting
You won’t be able to achieve perfect eyebrows through microblading in one session. You will probably need to sit for two sessions your first time, with your first session needing to be four weeks before your second session for your touch-ups.
Some skin types hold the ink better than others
When it comes to how different skin types retain eyebrow tattoo ink, oily skin does not fair as well. There is a higher risk of oily skin rejecting the pigment, and there is a risk of pigment hydration, which is when the pigment sinks into each other, with the strokes blending together to appear as a powder-filled brow, instead of distinctive strokes. If you know that your skin scars easily, you should avoid having microblading done.
It takes quite a long time
Sometimes it can take up to two hours just to draw the brow on the client. This is one of the most important parts, as getting the drawing of the brow right determines how the rest of the brow will turn out. Once the brows have been done, it takes additional time for aftercare instructions and helping the client understand how to look after their brows.
Eyebrows will not look the same
It is really important to understand that it is not normal for your eyebrows to look the same. You should have realistic expectations and know that your eyebrows will not be identical. This is due to your eyebrows starting at different positions from the eyes, and the different shape of your ocular cavities as well.
It will definitely hurt
You will be getting a tattoo on your face, so you can expect there to be some pain. There is the option to use a numbing cream, but this makes the skin slightly slippery, which could make the skin difficult to work on for the artist.
The brows will lighten after the first week
You might be worried that your brows appear darker than what you would have liked straight after your appointment, but don’t stress, once the healing period is over, your eyebrows will lighten considerably.
After four or five days, the scabs will begin to fall off, and the results beneath will be shown, and the brows will be at least 50% lighter than the first day.
Mistakes can be fixed
Artists will make mistakes, no matter how good they are, but there are ways to fix this. If the artist makes a stroke they are not happy with, they can avoid going back and deepening it, in the hopes that it will fade during the healing process. The artist can also choose to cover the stroke in a skin color ink.
